Tutu Tutorial Review

This is one of my favorite projects, in its simplicity and cheap-ness (is that a word?).

One of my first ever diys for Z was from Plumtickled. She wrote a pithy tutorial on how to make TuTus that was easy to follow, and had great pictures!

Time: 45 minutes to make 3
Cost: $11, INCLUDING the flower accents I bought- that comes out to a mere $3.66 each.

Notes: Being the cheap-o that I am, I bought the tulle off a bolt of fabric to save some mullah. I bought 2 yards per skirt. If I were to do it again, I would buy 4 yards of tulle. (So, maybe each tutu in the future would then be around $5, but thats still better than the store.

TIP 2: DO NOT BUY the glitter tulle. For two reasons; 1- it stretches, making it into weird different lengths. 2- the glitter will get everywhere.

So I find myself truly BLESSED to have found an old, beaten up radio flyer wagon at a garage sale a few weeks back. Rusted and sad, the owner sold it to me for $5. I tried not to skip all the way home. But like I said, it was sad- rusty, chipped paint, etc. But all the hardware still looked awesome, so I had hope. Tools Wire Sander (0.96) Spray paint primer- $3 Spray paint color- $3 Vinyl stickers $3 Total revamp costs? 9.96  (I already had some spray paint "waterproofer," so that was free... it would cost about $3 though) First, I sanded down all the rusty parts, which were mostly on the inside, with a wire sander thingy I found at Home Depot. Wish I knew the name, but alas. Its looks like a sponge on one side, and is sandy on the other. Most of the screws were too rusted over, so I had to tape a lot. Lanyard Tutorial

So after all my sewing adventures, I have quite a bit of scrap material. What better use than to make into lanyards for work! Materials needed: Long bits of scrap material swivel hooks Cost: 1.40 per hook, scrap material= $1.40!!!! Time: 20 Minutes Getting started Cut strips to the following dimensions (1 strip = 1 lanyard) = 2" X 40" You can alter the length before you sew together if you so desire!  If you'd like wider lanyards than I made, you could always go 3" X 40". Next, you get to iron!!!   Left- unironed, right, ironed in half Fold your strip in half and iron. When you've ironed in half, the unfurl your strip a little bit and iron one side into the center fold... Left- ironing into the fold, right- ironed only in half  Then do the other side!   Ironing strips into fold  NOW you fold along the fold again, and Iron again! Pooh and Eyeore Hoodies Tutorial

 Happy Halloween!!!! So, after finding my little ones' wonderful, barely worn Tigger costume for $5 at a thrift sale, the rest of our family costumes had to match! But since we were not about to rake out the dough for adult Pooh and Eeyore costumes, it was time to figure out how to make our own. So off we go! Let's start with Eeyore... Materials: 4 pieces of felt- 2 blue, 2 purple/pink- $3 Fake fur stip- $1 Sweatshirt- $12 (Amazon, after thought this would have been cheaper from Walmart, but eh!) Fabric glue (had some lying around house)- probably $3 if you don't. Interfacing- need fat quarters worth- $1 Total =$17 Felt for ears and tale First, trace ears on felt THEN, put ear over the pink, trace again! Do it again (to make 2 ears) Then, trace and iron on the interfacing to the blue part of the ear to make the ears less flappy.  Sew ears together.
